UN SITO DEDICATO ALLA PORTI ROMANI, NAVI E COMMERCIO D'OLTREMARE

Roman Ports is a non-profit organisation that seeks to promote ancient Roman ports in two ways: by making them better known and through funding. This site is therefore intended for a broad public: for anyone interested in Roman antiquity, for people reading at home or tourists as they travel about. The site is designed for both schoolchildren and their teachers, while students and researchers will also find what they are looking for, with references to scholarly websites and publications. Apart from the ports of Ostia and Portus in the vicinity of Rome, our focus will be on the various Roman ports bordering the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. We shall be looking not just at the port itself but also at the associated towns and cities: how people lived, how they worked and how they were buried. In brief, the entire organisation that was needed in order to keep a port going.
