Massilia(France)

Kaart Massilia klein

Massilia, today Marseille, is located on the southern coast of France. Before the civil war between Caesar and Pompeius, Massilia was an independent city. During that war it chose the wrong side: Pompeius. After his victory Caesar added the city to the Roman empire. Many buildings were erected during the reign of Augustus.

Many remains from antiquity and the ancient harbour can be seen in the Museum of the History of Marseille.
